My legs have been bothering me for the last couple of weeks. It's mainly my left leg and I'm really hoping that it's not shin splints. I've been icing religiously and taking ibuprofen but I'm still in pain. I went to Fleet Feet this afternoon, just to be sure it wasn't a "shoe thing." The shoes I'm in are the right ones; my gait is fine--no rolling in of my ankle. He said, "Maybe you should go see a doc." NOT what I wanted to hear. But, I know that if I continue to have pain, I will need to do just that. I certainly don't want to seriously injure myself at this stage in the game.
So, my plan is to run my 6 miles tomorrow at a slower pace. Probably do intervals rather than try to run the entire way. See how my legs feel after that. I'm going to do more cross-training next week than usual and continue to ice. Try to give my legs a break from the pounding. Keep your fingers crossed for me! :-)
Hope everyone has had a good week. See you all tomorrow!

Mark says "better to get to Chicago undertrained than injured" and after being injured I agree. If the pain has persisted this long I would go see someone. Go to the doctor and if he makes you rest your injury, go see Wayne. He will help you with alternative exercises you need to keep up your endurance and stamina for Chicago.
It will be okay!
Good luck!
My son who is also training for the Chicago marathon (but not with our group) experienced what you are describing. It went on for 2-3 weeks and regardless of what he did, (icing, ibuprofen, etc.), it remained painful. He went to an orthopedist, who suspected a stress fracture, BUT the bone scan was negative. The recommendation was rest it for 2 weeks, which he did, and NOW HE IS FINE! I wish for an outcome like that for you!
